Why every investigator should attend this course:

The costs to a law enforcement agency for not conducting a comprehensive background investigation are multifaceted and can be substantial. Some examples include:

  • Avoid Costly Legal and Liability Issues – Hiring an Officer with a problematic background without proper vetting them, could result in them engaging in misconduct which may result in lawsuits and damages and the Agency may be liable for not performing due diligence.

  • Avoid Safety Issues – Hiring and inappropriate candidate with a criminal history, substance abuse issues, etc. may result in behaviors that could harm the public or their colleges and also create distrust among the department.

  • Avoid Reputation and Trust Issues – If an officer with a questionable background is hired and later involved in an incident, it can severely damage the public’s trust in the entire department and increased media scrutiny which can be hard to rebuild.

  • Avoid Unnecessary Costs - In many cases, the costs of not conducting proper background investigations far exceed the investment in a thorough vetting process.
